In September, one of my elective module with the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Singapore Campus was this FAB333 Cuisine and Culture Course. In this course, we learned about various historical culture and cuisines of the world, from Old World to New World etc. As part of the course, we have the opportunity to dine outside in various restaurants selected and arranged by various classmates.
Our first trip is to go for simple British grub called Fish & Chips at
The Manhattan Fish Market.
Manhattan Fish Market at the Ilumna Bugis
At the menu stand, where this old crab lives.
Haddock Version of Fish & Chips
Cherry Snapper Version of Fish & Chips (Best!)
Overall, the dining experience at The Manhattan Fish Market was great, the portion of the Fish & Chips were quite generous and worth the price paid for. However, the restaurant couldn't deal with mass orders and one of the Cherry Snapper Version of Fish and Chips were served undercooked! Unknowingly, my classmate ate through most of the fish only to realized it later with comparison that it were undercooked. Naturally a complain followed and the restaurant kindly replaced a set. However.. no apologies were given.. hmmm.. some service failure there for sure!
The following two weeks, we had the Thai Cuisine and Lebanese (Middle Eastern) Cuisine, which I shall promote in the next blog posts with more photos & detailed descriptions.

What comes next is our final outing for Italian food at Pasta Fresca Da Salvatore located at Clarke Quay. The decor was pretty nice and suitable for a cozy dining experience, however, there were quite a few disappointing factors for the entire dining experience as explained below with photos.
Soup of the day - Borscht Soup
Not a bad start, the soup was hot and nicely done.
Grilled Aubergines, Capsicums, Zucchinis with Balsamic Vinaigrette and Garlic Bread
The second course was nicely done, tasty, presentation wise, not too bad.. but because it's thinly sliced, grilled and dressed with balsamic vinaigrette, it turned cold rather quickly in the air-conditioned room =(
Baked Aubergine Lasagna
Now, this dish is quite nicely done and unique. Being someone who don't really like Aubergines (Brinjals), this Aubergine Lasagna really got me eating. In between baked layers of cheeses are not pasta but instead, aubergines. The blend of dish topped with more Parmesan cheese powder just simply whetted my appetite.
The Main Course - Spaghetti with fried breaded chicken breasts
What can I say about the Main Course? Great?... On the contrary, it's terrible! Perhaps I can contribute that it sucks big time because it was prepared way in advance and placed in a warmer due to preparation for a large group of 20. (That's the only consolation that I can contribute to). The portion of spaghetti was miserably small and quite undercooked with some hardness in the spaghetti.. ouch. Next the fried breaded chicken breast, not that I have to complain, the portion that was served to me was overdone, and it tastes like hard cardboard! Totally no moisture in the chicken breasts at all and requires some Tabasco chili to get me biting through it. =(
Dessert of the day - Tiramisu
To save the evening of a rather bad main course, the tiramisu cake that was served was rather nicely done. Yeah.. some saving grace... the chocolate powder on the tiramisu was nicely coated and the overall taste was palatable.
Overall, these two dinner outings were quite nice but quite a bit of changes are needed by the restaurants in order to improve the overall dinning experiences.
