Today, I went with my best friend, Wubing to meet up with his ex-campmates at Orchard MRT Station around 2.30 pm. After meeting up with one another, we proceeded to walk thru Wisma Atria to Ngee Ann City (Takashimaya). Not knowing what to eat as they are so many choices around but lack of seats were one things we don't wanna wait for cos I believe everyone is famished. Finally, we chanced upon this restaurant seating in one corner at Basement 2 of Takashimaya. As you can see it is called CENTRAL, translated from the chinese words 中環茶餐廳. The ambiance of the restaurant is very trendy yet it also brings out a feel of old hong kong nostalgia.
The waitresses were prompt in greeting us as we step into the restaurant, confirmed our number and accorded us to a square table which I feel is very adequate so that the 4 of us can get to face one another which helped us communicate better. Looking thru the attractive menu, I was quite amused at their choice of chinese words as their menu sub-header, for e.g.: 別開生面, 顏面河在, 生米成飯. The guys ordered their food which you can see above and when it arrived, I can tell you, it really smelled heavenly! The best part of it I would say is the ingredients are like so commonly simple and available yet the chef was able to make it such that the Color 色, Smell 香, Taste 味 are so completely well balanced!
But nothing, absolutely nothing could compared to what I have ordered, which I personally felt is the best choice made so far and would definitely recommended it all who want to give it a try!
I ordered a Stir-fry Durian Fried Rice 美味榴槤炒飯 and a glass of ice cold famous coffee & tea mixed drink 冰凍鴛鴦. When it arrived, the plate was covered up with a lid. At first, I do not understand why it was so as my friends' food arrived uncovered. I soon realised why, when the lid was removed, I was immediately caught by the heavenly durian smell emitting from the fried rice. I would describe the durian smell as heavenly because it is strong but not to the stage of being pungent yet smelled so so inviting!
Taking in the first spoonful of the durian fried rice, I could taste the sweet durian tantalizing my taste buds, the moisture of the rice as well as the freshness of the shrimps. OMG! It have been ages since I last get to eat something that reallys satisfies my taste-buds like never before, the last something like this happened to me was years ago when I first tried the Swiss Meat Balls from Ikea cafeteria. I could virtually float with delight there and then (Heh heh, a bit exaggerated... but hey it really taste heavenly). Of course the only thing that brought me back to reality was the price of the fried rice, a bit on the steep side but it is still money well spent & I will definitely promote it to all whom are intrigued by what I have recommended here. There are also many other dishes which are known as Chef's Recommendation, look for the hand signs pointing to the dish, order those & I'm sure you will never go wrong!
After lunch, I ordered a Sea Coconut with Sago desert while Wubing ordered a Pomelo & Mango Soybean Curd. The presentation was not only pleasing to the eye but taste great too giving one a well deserved ice chilled break after eating such heavenly food. This is one place I think not only can I get close to a feel of trendy nostalgic Hong Kong Central, but the food is definitely a must try! Maybe can consider bringing your Mom out for a Mother's day celebration this weekend! Pamper & Shower your mom with great ambience, great food & drinks!
